Salt and Static

Didn't Know

He set me down quietly and didn't tell me. I didn't know that. I kept walking toward a hand that wasn't reaching back anymore, because I trusted. Completely. I thought I was safe. But I didn't know. Quietly I worked up the resilience and capacity. Months and months, closer to a year than half. But he was gone. Already gone. Long gone. I didn't know. I was an ignorant, faithful fool to a ghost that once loved me. How good I am at trusting the dead Even when I didn't know.
